The mission of the ELTE University Library and Archives, which won the Hungarian Heritage Award and – as part of the University Library Service – the title of Qualified Library in 2018, as well as the EFQM “Committed to Excellence” certificate in 2020, is to provide Hungarian and foreign academic teachers, researchers and students with domestic and foreign literature, intending to integrate them into the international circulation of scientific life. Now, you can also help to ensure free access to information, to preserve and digitize our cultural values, and to acquire modern technological equipment and implement continuous service development. At Christmas 2025, the ELTE University Library and Archives awarded Tibor Móring, research librarian at the Education and Research Support Department, in recognition of his high-quality professional work and his contribution to enhancing the prestige of our institution. This year, for the first time, the Pro Bibliotheca Universitatis Junior award was also presented to Ádám Bollók, IT specialist in the IT and Development Department, in recognition of his successful work and outstanding performance.

As part of our book adoption program, Central Publishing Group Ltd. adopted Sigismondo Fanti's book of fortune telling.

At the fourth quarterly report of the K21 Quality Coordination Committee 2025, the leaders of the working groups reported on the results of the past quarter, ongoing work and changes.

The ELTE University Library and Archives also paid tribute to Ferenc Toldy on the 220th anniversary of his birth and the 150th anniversary of his death at a commemoration organised by the National Heritage Institute on 10 December 2025.

Due to technical reasons, the Reading Hall and the Community Space opening from the lobby will be available to readers at the ELTE University Library and Archives on 12 December 2025 (Friday) from 12:00 p.m.

School libraries belonging to the ELTE library network can consult their documents in various databases. While maintaining these systems, the ELTE University Library and Archives developed a common search interface in 2011 within the framework of the TÁMOP-3.2.4/09/1/KMR-2010-0021 project, which can be accessed directly at https://gimikatalogus.elte.hu.

As part of the Hungarian Science Festival series of events, on November 20, 2025, the ELTE Bárczi Gusztáv Faculty of Special Education commemorated the life and work of Dr. Flóra Kozmutza (1905–1995) with a conference and exhibition dedicated to her work.

The ELTE–NFI University Film Club screening and discussion series continues. We welcome university members from all ELTE faculties.

On the 150th anniversary of Ferenc Toldy's death and the 220th anniversary of his birth, the MNMKK Petőfi Literary Museum is organising a memorial event on the 10th of December, where our colleague, Dr. Krisztina Tóth, will give a lecture on Toldy's work as a collection organiser and library builder.

Our series, titled “Mosaics from the Heritage of ELTE”, presents some of the outstanding cultural heritage of Eötvös Loránd University. The object of the month – Pages from the history of Typography TE (Budapest: University Press, 1973).

The ELTE University Library and Archives offers extended opening hours for readers and students on weekdays and Saturdays between the 1st of December 2025 and the 17th of January 2026 until 22.00 hours. Our community space offers the opportunity to learn, relax, use kitchen facilities and free computer access. The self-service facilities in the lobby and the community space on the ground floor will continue to be available with a valid library card on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. and on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m.
