We have collected the most frequently loaned books in the University Library over the past year.

In the framework of the Sustainability Week, we welcome elementary and secondary school groups to visit the ELTE University Library and Archives for green library presentations.

The Web of Science Core Collection is a comprehensive scientific database that contains the most significant sources in the social sciences, arts, and humanities. In the webinar on January 29, participants will learn about effective methods of using the database and the possibilities of analyzing citation relationships. Participation is free, but prior registration is required.

The ELTE University Library and Archives will be closed from January 25, 2025 (Saturday) to February 8, 2025 (Saturday) due to storage organisation.

An exhibition on the life and work of Gusztáv Bárczi has opened in the library of the Gusztáv Bárczi Faculty of Special Education. Bárczi was a key figure in curative education, serving as director of the College of Curative Education from 1942 to 1963. The exhibition showcases unique documents from his legacy, highlighting the most important stages of his life.

The mission of the ELTE University Library and Archives, which won the Hungarian Heritage Award and – as part of the University Library Service – the title of Qualified Library in 2018, as well as the EFQM “Committed to Excellence” certificate in 2020, is to provide Hungarian and foreign academic teachers, researchers and students with domestic and foreign literature, intending to integrate them into the international circulation of scientific life. Now, you can also help to ensure free access to information, to preserve and digitize our cultural values, and to acquire modern technological equipment and implement continuous service development. The 2025 calendar of the ELTE University Library and Archives features a selection of images from the atlas „Theatrum orbis terrarum” (The Theatre of the World's Lands).

At the fourth quarterly report of the K21 Quality Coordination Committee 2024, the leaders of the working groups reported on the results of the past quarter, ongoing work and changes.

On 6 December 2024, the exhibition „Fruits of Discord. Portraying the Ottoman Presence” opened at the Slovak National Gallery. The exhibition presents the interesting and dramatic history of Hungarian-Ottoman relations in the 16th and 17th centuries through the example of the cultural relations, including the Tamás Pálffy volume on loan from the ELTE University Library and Archives. The exhibition explores the period of Ottoman expansion in Hungary and the intercultural exchanges, with a special focus on Ottoman material culture in Central European art.

In Christmas time 2024, Schmidt Tamásné, bibliographer and processing librarian of the Collection Development Department, was awarded the Pro Bibliotheca Universitatis Certificate of Merit by the ELTE University Library and Archives, thanking her for the high quality and prestigious professional work.

As of 6 January 2025, the Archives will be open to researchers and clients in a new location and with extended opening hours.

The exhibition closed on 15 December 2024.

The Library will be closed between the 23rd of December 2024 and the 1st of January 2025. Our library's services will be available from the 2nd of January 2025. We wish all our dear readers a very merry Christmas and a successful New Year!

We are pleased to announce that JSTOR is offering a trial access to its text mining service, Constellate, available until June 2025. This unique opportunity allows ELTE students, faculty, and staff to explore Constellate’s advanced text and data mining tools, fostering research and innovation.

EBSCO has offered trial access to six databases until 31 December 2024.

The ELTE University Library and Archives will be closed on 5 December 2024 (Thursday) due to technical reasons. From Friday (6 December 2024), we will be open as usual. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

EBSCO has revamped its service platform, the EBSCOhost site. By January 7, 2025, only this new site will be available, which will include all old features and will be expanded with many new modern research options.

The ELTE University Library and Archives offers extended opening hours for readers and students on weekdays and Saturdays between the 2nd of December 2024 and the 18th of January 2025 until 22.00 hours. Our new community space offers the opportunity to learn, relax, use kitchen facilities and free computer access.

School libraries belonging to the ELTE library network can consult their documents in various databases. While maintaining these systems, the ELTE University Library and Archives developed a common search interface in 2011. The conversion of school library databases is done at regular intervals. Once a year, usually in November.

The ELTE University Library and Archives will be closed on the 29th November 2024 due to a university event.
