The library intended to draw attention to the protection of our cultural values and the preservation of our built heritage with our event organized in the University Library and Archives of Eötvös Loránd University within the framework of this year's Cultural Heritage Days.
On the 550th anniversary of Janus Pannonius’s death, the Gospel Book of the poet and bishop was presented. The parchment codex (Cod. Graec. 1) is a special treasure of our library from the 11th century, probably copied in Constantinople. The codex is decorated with full-page illustrations of the Gospel, depicting the different stages of the work, the one of John was probably lost in the 16th century. Our related chamber exhibition entitled Janus Pannonius from Humanism to the Baroque – A selection from the collection of the University Library and Archives is on display until the 11th of November 2022, from 10.00 to 15.00 on weekdays.
