As part of the Green Bridge volunteer expert program, we are pleased to welcome groups of elementary and high school students on guided tours of the ELTE University Library and Archives’ Green Library. During the program, we invite students to explore our library building and discover the secrets of our Green Library.
On our library tours, our guests can learn about the history of the ELTE University Library and Archives. Built according to the plans of Antal Szkalnitzky, the library building incorporated the most advanced ventilation, heating, and lighting solutions of the 19th century. During the guided tour, visitors are able to view the sgraffito decorations in the colonnaded hall of the auditorium, the female figures depicting the sciences and arts in the ceremonial hall, and Mór Than’s portrait of the middle-aged Franz Joseph. Visitors have the opportunity to explore the rooms of the former Director General’s flat, admire the reconstruction of László Perczel’s globe, and get a glimpse into our Historic Artifacts Storage Facility, which we open to the general public only on special occasions. As part of the tour, we’ll showcase the exhibitions in the 150-year-old library palace, the library’s AI-powered services, its furniture restored through value-adding upcycling, and its best practices in sustainability.
During our “Green Library” quiz, you’ll discover what a library can do to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. All visitors are welcome!
