Irish Culture Day

The Department of English Language and Literature of the ELTE Berzsenyi Dániel Teacher Training Centre, with the support of the Embassy of Ireland to Hungary, is hosting a day of Irish literature, music, film and cultural dialogue on 24 April. The event will be attended by Ragnar Almqvist, Ambassador of Ireland to Hungary. The event will also take place in the ELTE ULA Savaria Library and Archives from 14:15 in the Pável Ágoston room on the second floor.

🕚 11:00–12:00

  • 🎤 Opening of the Seamus Heaney roll-up exhibition
  • Words matter: the relationship between literature and diplomacy in Ireland and the EU
  • Speech by Ragnar Almqvist, Ambassador of Ireland to Hungary.

  • 📚 Irish Scholarship Programme Presentation - Réka Simon
  • 🧠 Irish Cultural Quiz with Szilva Tóth, Assistant Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature and a special (secret!) guest from Ireland

  • 🎓 Judit Kádár, Associate Professor of the Department of English Language and Literature, will talk to Győző Ferencz, Professor Emeritus of ELTE, poet and literary historian of the Attila József Prize

Topic: Irish literary influences in poetry and academic work

  • 🎬 Film screening: Brooklyn (2015, in English, with Hungarian subtitles)
  • Afterwards, an informal discussion with Remport Eglantina, Assistant Professor at the English-American Institute
